Autumn 2- The Age of the Conquerors

This half term our project is titled The Age of the Conquerors. In this project we will be learning about the Vikings and Anglo Saxons, how and why invasions happened, where settlements were and how people lived. We will create timelines to help us understand events and why they happened. We  will explore artefacts and will discuss similarities and differences between Vikings and Anglo Saxons and will even have the opportunity to dress up. We will find out how settlers travelled to and around the UK and also explore creating our own Viking longboats as part of design and technology.

    The word viking comes from the language called ”Old Norse” and vikings live in a house called” longhouse”.
    Vikings are farmers who grew many crops.The viking age was from about AD700-1100.

    The Vikings first invaded Britain in AD 793 and last invaded in 1066 when William the Conqueror became King of England after the Battle of Hastings. The first place the Vikings raided in Britain was the monastery at Lindisfarne, a small holy island located off the northeast coast of England.

    Vikings were around about 2000 years ago, in 787 AD. Before the Vikings came there were Anglo Saxons. The Anglo saxons were around in about 1066.

    The vikings invaded England because they wanted to kill kill the monks and steal the treasure. On the day of the Viking and anglo saxon workshop I Iearnt that the anglo saxons wore bright colours.

    Anglo Saxons were very different in that time compared to now they normally made things out of wood,jewels and sometimes metal.They were around about in 1066,they weren’t just always violent and gruesome sometimes they were quite peaceful.Eventualy in 787 AD Vikings came to earth Anglo Saxons and Vikings had some simerlarities like being gruesome but they were always attacking each other but a while after that they had to get along together so they did Eventualy.

    Vikings were very violent and discusting but they wanted to spend time with there family to and they didn’t go to school they just had a private person at home to do it they also came from Germany and Scandinavia.

    The Angolo Saxons came before the Vikings. When the Saxons did a crime and they got away with it the first time and it happens again it would leave them to the to trail by water where they can walk nine steps while walking with a trolley full of hot oil after three days if it heels it is fine, tie your arms and legs and throw you in the pond if they pop up they are ok and put your hands in boiling hot water for a few seconds if it heels in three days it has heeled you can go home.

    I like Vikings did you know that Thor is a Viking God and Viking lived along time ago in 787 AD about 2000 years ago.

    I thought that Vikings and Anglo Saxons were violent and Grusum but I was wrong they are people who have long boats

    I really enjoyed our Anglo-Saxon and Vikings workshop I learnt a lot like that the Anglo-Saxons always wore bright colours and Vikings wore darker colours.I also learnt loads of stuff I was surprised that the Dow was worth £2 compared to the servant £200 compared to the king who is worth £12000!It really surprised me, the dows clothes were quite uncomfortable in fact they were very uncomfortable.

    Did you know that the Vikings played with swimming,horsriding and chess and when Vikings fight that is called pirate rage.The Anglosaxons came before the Vikings in 1066 and the Vikings came in 787 AD and the Vikings call there boats longboats.

    the earliest viking raids were carried out to monasteries over 1200 years ago vikings sailed from the scandinavian home lands in summer months carried out violent raids and returned home with there loot for the winter.

    The anglo saxons took over most of england they also invaided scotland and wales they came from north west europe monks were very important in anglo saxon life, they wrote a book called the anglo saxon chronicol .
