Autumn 2 – Marvellous Mountains

Our new project is

Marvellous Mountains!

Are all mountains the same?

Have you ever wondered why some volcanoes erupt and some don’t? Or what can make the earth tremble or crack? Over the next few weeks we’ll be finding out the answers to these questions and many more.

This half term we will be;

  • learning about different mountain ranges around the world and their climates
  • exploring different types of rocks and soils
  • looking at earthquakes and volcanoes and how they happen
  • the impact of natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes

We will create a science investigation area in the classroom where you can explore different types of rocks and soils.

Have you ever climbed any mountains?

What do you know about Everest and Kilimanjaro?

How many metres high does a hill have to be to become a mountain?

How many volcanoes are active around the world?
